PIA launches inflight intranet on selective flights

PIA intranet advertisement giving the initial hints of how it will be.

Pakistan international airlines is starting to provide intranet on selective routes and on 4 A320 aircrafts to begin with. The intranet facility will come with an app that will be loaded with entertainment options. The first flight will take off at 7AM in the morning tomorrow.

PIA is putting devices in 4 of its Airbus A320s to start with and the aim is to provide internet on board so passengers can enjoy entertainment on short haul flights to begin with. Initially the service will be available on Islamabad-Karachi and Lahore-Karachi routes.

The flight number that will have the service are PK-300 to PK-306.  In Phase 1 there are kids games, tilawat and other content that is free. But PIA is working on an app that will be launched within this month and that will have moving maps and western movies in phase two and in the same phase it will be spread across to more planes and flights.

PIA officials are planing to put these devices gradually on all Airbus A320 and gradually with the earning from advertisements they plan to increase this facility to all the PIA fleet. At that time PIA aims to provide this service absolutely free of cost.
