Gulf giant Emirates has denied reports published in sections of Pakistani media that it has plans to buy into any airline. A Pakistani newspaper that is notorious for publishing misleading news stories about aviation published a story claiming that “two UAE carriers were interested in buying a piece of Pakistani flag carrier PIA. This came at a time when a government minister claimed that Pakistani government is attempting to privatise.

The newspaper claimed that Emirates and Etihad “were showing great interest in PIA,” But the newspaper published this story quoting an unnamed Pakistani official involved in the privatisation process. However, in a statement to Arabian Business, Emirates denied any intention of doing so.

A spokesperson for the airline told Arabian Business that “Emirates has no plans to buy or acquire any airline”. He further said that “we continue to focus on our organic growth, and will partner with other airlines where it benefits our customers and makes commercial sense.”
