Pakistan International Airlines has released the bid evaluation report of 4 narrow body aircraft that were shortlisted as a result of a tender issued on December 1st, 2017. During the bidding process, 9 planes were presented for PIA’s consideration. Out of 9, PIA has accepted 3 planes while bids for 6 planes were rejected.
09 Planes participated in the bidding process out of which 03 planes were accepted whereas 06 planes were not meeting the criteria and hence were rejected. A total of 04 leasing companies participated in the bidding process.
European planemaker Airbus remained a top choice with 05 planes participating in tender whereas a new entrant Embraer of Brazil offered 04 planes in the tender. Surprisingly there was no plane of US aircraft manufacturer Boeing.
The Companies that participated in the tender are Dubai based Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), USA based Jackson Square Aviation, Apollo Aviation and Aircraft leasing giant AERCAP.

MSN 5371
Airbus A320-214 that took to air on 25th Oct 2012 and it is currently 5 years 3 months old. It’s last known registration is RP-C8620. It was delivered to Philippines Airlines in November 2012 with 156 seat configuration. The plane is powered by 2 CFM-56-5 B4-P Engines. This aircraft is leased from AWAS now renamed as Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE). This aircraft got the highest marks in bid evaluation report with technical marks of 30.8 and financial marks of 50, hence a total of 80.8 marks.

Airbus A319-111 that took to the air on 12th May 2010 and it is currently 7 years 8 months old. It’s last known registration is G-EZFV. It was delivered to UK’s Low-Cost giant EasyJet in June 2010 with 156 all-economy configurations. It was registered as G-EZFV. The plane is powered by 2 CFM-56-5B5/3 Engines. It is leased by Jackson Square Aviation. This plane got the technical marks of 20.4 and financial marks of 39.8 hence a total of 60.2 marks.

Airbus A319-111 that took to the air on 2 July 2010 and it is currently 7 years 6 months old. It’s last known registration is G-EZFW. It was delivered to UK low-cost giant EasyJet in July 2010 with all-economy seats. It was registered as G-EZFW. The plane is powered by 2 CFM-56-5B5/3 Engines. The aircraft is currently active and is the property of Jackson Square Aviation. It got the technical marks of 20.0 and financial marks of 39.8 hence a total of 59.8 marks.
06 planes that were rejected with the following MSNs:

All the 06 were rejected because of not meeting the tender requirement as all of their delivery dates were not fulfilling the tender dates. MSN 2897 did not meet the aircraft age requirement of tender as well.
Recently 04 wet leased Viet jet A320s completed their 06-month term with PIA and went back to their home base in Vietnam. This has created shortages of narrow-body aircraft in PIA fleet. Therefore PIA is keen to avail this tender. In our view, PIA should get the 1 A320 and 02 A319 aircraft on a dry lease as soon as possible. And put an end to this back and forth bidding process that leads the airline in no certain direction. All 3 aircraft are powered by CFM engines which are an advantage for PIA engineering. Induction of these planes will help to smoothen up the flight schedules for PIA and will eventually pay dividends for the national flag carrier.
