New Islamabad airport inauguration plan finalised

The Aviation Division has finalised plans for the inauguration of New Islamabad airport that will be known as Islamabad International Airport. According to the plan the airport will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on 1st may 2018. PIA has announced to run a special flight for the day from Karachi.

According to the plan the Prime Minister will inaugurate the airport at 10 AM on 1st may 2018. Airport Security Forces will give the Prime Minister guard of honour. There will be a ceremony in the international departures lounge where the PM and Aviation officials will speak. At the same time, the first flight PK300 will arrive from Karachi and airport fire services will give the plane water cannon salute.

It was initially announced that the airport will be inaugurated between 16 to 20 April. Then 20th April was finalised for the opening but a visit by PM brought the revelation that inauguration could be delayed. So CAA decided to continue with the opening of the airport for commercial aviation. But on Wednesday 18th April it was announce that now the airport will open on 3rd May.

Islamabad’s new gateway has seen its fair share of delays and dramas. Hope this time it is opened on 3rd May.
