94 year old PIA passenger dies in accident at Najaf international airport

of one asphalt runway 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) long and 45 metres (148 ft) wide. The airport is expanding to provide four departure gates, two arrival gates, immigration and passenger services.

A 94-year-old passenger travelling with Pakistan International Airlines from Najaf to Karachi died while boarding the plane. Nisar Fatima was travelling from Najaf on PK220 when the ambulifter that was taking her up to the plane at Najaf Airport fell.

According to Najaf Airport Authority and the ground handling agency at Najaf, when the ambulifter was taking up Nisar Fatima many of her relatives also got onto the ambulifter at the same time, that imbalanced. During this, she got injured and was taken to hospital where she died later and was buried in Holy Najaf on the will of her relatives accompanying her.
PIA staff is fully in contact with the relatives of deceased, Mrs Nisar Fatima and offered them every possible help including expenses. PIA is also ensuring the return of the deceased family to Pakistan on the next available flight.
Meanwhile President & CEO Musharraf Rasool Cyan while condoling the death of Nisar Fatima and sympathizing with her relatives has ordered an investigation about the incident and asked airport manager to issue notice to the Iraqi ground handling service for their negligence. The ground handling at Najaf is being handled by the Najaf Airport Authority. PIA has issued a notice to the Najaf Airport Authority and asked for a detailed report of the sad incident immediately.
