PIA CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik’s appointment challenged in Lahore high court

CEO and President of PIA Air Marshal Arshad Malik

A local lawyer in Lahore has challenged the appointment of  Pakistan International Airline’s new CEO and president Air Marshal Arshad Malik. Advocate Nabeel Awan has pleaded to the court that Ashad Malik is using the powers of CEO & President without any notification from the competent authority. The petition has requested the court to make Prime Minister and Secretary Aviation a party in the case.

The petitioner has taken a point that according to PIA act 2016 the appointment of CEO cannot take place without public advertisement. Arshad Malik is accused by the petitioner of declaring himself as the president of the airline after assuming the charge of CEO. So the court is requested to stop the CEO and President from working and amend the rules of appointment of professional people in PIA.

However, the petitioner seems to be confused about the fact that the role of president and CEO are not two but one role. neverthless it will be interesting to see if this peition is entertained by the court and if the court decides in the same fashion as was the case of Musharraf Rasool Cyan.
