Civil Aviation Authority suspended commercial flying licenses of 34 PIA pilots

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has suspended commercial pilot licenses of 34 PIA pilots. This is apparently done after inquiries regarding their ‘dubious’ licenses were completed. A letter issued by the CAA additional director licensing informed the PIA’s director of flight operations about this decision. While most of the pilots claim that this list is full of problems. According to a reliable source, 21 out of these 34 pilots are absolutely innocent. One pilot has never appeared any exam and his name is also on the list.

Earlier PIA said that it has grounded 150 pilots but later on the minister of aviation said the actual number is 141. Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority for the first time has issued something about the licences. It is important to note that the authority is completely silent since the speech by Aviation Minister made headlines around the world.

The aviation minister also said that show-cause notices had been served to 30 pilots and they would also be suspended after completion of an inquiry while their dismissal will be decided by the federal cabinet. The pilots on the other hand accuse the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and PIA of not giving them a proper opportunity to clear their names.
