Pakistan International Airlines is once again in news and this time it is for the incident that happened at Manchester airport. Flight PK 702 from Manchester to Islamabad was delayed by 7 hours because a passenger erroneously opened the emergency door causing the emergency slide to activate, thinking it was toilet door.
This single incident caused massive delays and issues for not only PIA but Manchester airport. The flight arrived in Islamabad seven hours late having made up some time during the journey. Several other departures from Manchester airport were also delayed as a result of the disruption. But it was not only PIA and Manchester airport that suffered.

So according to the information available the incident happened at the time of push back. When the cabin crew armed the door and the plane was ready to be pushed back. The cabin crew were giving the safety demonstration or just finished it and this passenger sneaked out and opened the latch. The emergency slide is not easy to redeploy and it requires special skilled staff.
Due to the nonavailability of the emergency slide on the aft door, the flight PK702 was only able to take off when 40 passengers according to PIA were offloaded, owing to its evacuation capacity being reduced. But PIA promises to these passengers seems to have not worked and some of those have since complained that their baggage was left behind in Manchester. One passenger took to twitter and complained about the missing luggage and PIA attitude in a thread below.
پی آئی اے کی جمعہ کی رات مانچسٹر سے اسلام آباد آنے والی پرواز پی کے 702 کی مانچسٹر سے روانگی میں 7 گھنٹے کی تاخیر ہوگئی۔ ترجمان پی آئی اے کے مطابق پرواز میں تاخیر کی وجہ ایک مسافر کی جانب سے ایمرجنسی دروازے کو کھولنا تھا جس کی وجہ سے ایمرجنسی سلائیڈ کھل گئی۔ مروجہ طریقہ کار کے مطابق پی آئی اے کو تقریباً چالیس مسافروں کو سامان سمیت پرواز سے اتارنا پڑا۔ جس کی وجہ سے پرواز کی روانگی میں تاخیر ہوئی۔ مانچسٹر ہوائی اڈے پر ذرائع نے بتایا کہ اس واقعے کے بعد طیارے کے ایمرجنسی سلائیڈ میں تکنیکی مسائل کی وجہ سے اس کے قریب واقع چالیس نشستوں کو خالی رکھا گیا تاکہ ہنگامی حالات میں وہ متاثر نہ ہوں۔
ترجمان نے بتایا کہ پرواز سے اتارے جانے والے مسافروں کو ہوٹل میں رہائش فراہم کی گئی اور ان کو اگلی دستیاب پرواز سے پاکستان پہنچا دیا جائے گا۔
دوسری جانب اسلام آباد سے کوپن ہیگن جانے والی پی آئی اے کی پرواز میں فنی خرابی کی وجہ سے تاخیر ۔ پرواز پی کے 771 نے دن 12 بج کر25منٹ پر روانہ ہونا تھا مگر یہ بعد میں شام سات بجے کوپن ہیگن اور اوسلو کے لیے روانہ ہو گی۔ پی آئی اے نے مسافروں کے لیے ایئرپورٹ لاؤئج میں ریفرشمنٹ کا انتظام کیا۔
