Pakistan International Airlines is interested in starting direct flights to Frankfurt, Germany. This news item was shared on a few websites but all of them missed the key point in this news and that is “interested”. Ideally, PIA is interested in starting flights to any destination where there are few Pakistani or where there is political will or support. This time airline’s CEO was speaking in Sialkot where he made this statement.
Air Marshal Arshad Malik said that the passenger and cargo flights will facilitate the exporters in Sialkot to reach the Scandinavian countries that include Norway, Sweden through Frankfurt-Germany as well. But the root of this interest lies in PIA current business plan. According to the plan PIA is interested in starting flights to Frankfurt, Guangzhou and couple of other international destinations that were once part of its route network. But that is where things are as there is no formal study, not any plan in place that can give an idea if PIA is really interested to walk the talk.
At the meeting in Sialkot senior PIA officials along with the SCCI President Malik Muhammad Ashraf, Senior Vice President (SVP) Khurram Azeem Khan, Vice President (VP) Chaudhry Jalil Aslam, senior SCCI officials, Chairman airline, Air Sial, Fazal Jillani, Chairman Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL) Nadeem Anwar Qureshi, Chairman SIAL’s Business Development Committee Mian Naeem Javaid and other leading people from travel trade were present. PIA CEO also said that soon PIA will start direct flights between Sialkot and Madina.
