PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi inaugurated upgraded Bacha Khan International Airport

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi inaugurated the up-graded Bacha Khan International Airport (BKIA) that was completed catering to over 3.5 million passengers per year, that is over 2 million from current capacity. Peshawar’s international gateway was originally built in 1927, to cater to the needs of people living in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

Phase-I of BKIA was completed in two years. In addition to state of the art new terminal, passengers seats, immigration counters, boarding lodges were also increased to facilitate passengers.

Despite facing difficult challenges, the government has not only successfully completed the Islamabad airport but also upgraded and expanded Faisalabad, Multan and Sialkot airports, which reflected the PML-N government’s deep commitment towards strengthening of the aviation sector in the country.

The prime minister speaking on the occasion said that up-gradation and renovation work at Quetta International Airport has almost been completed and would be inaugurated in a week that would provide quality services to people of Balochistan.

The premier said that expansion work at Lahore International Airport that would also be completed with an estimated cost of $500million very soon.

K-P Governor Engr Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Secretary Aviation Dr Ejaz Munir and high ranking officers of Civil Aviation Authority were also present on the occasion.
