Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was informed by the secretary aviation division that “95% work on the new Islamabad international airport terminal building has been completed and all civil works would be completed by March 2017.”
The PM was chairing a high-level meeting to review the progress of new Islamabad International Airport project and its allied infrastructure in Islamabad on Monday. Also present in the meeting chairman National Highway Authority updated that “the New Airport is being provided main road access from both Motorways M-1 (Peshawar – Rawalpindi) & M-2 (Rawalpindi – Lahore) and also from main GT Road”. He said “the airport will also have access from Islamabad Metro that Prime Minister will inaugurate on 14th August, 2017 along with New Islamabad International Airport”.
Earlier the secretary aviation division said that “installation of equipments and machines will be done by next month and testing will begin”. The new airport which is facing severe delays of multiple years is scheduled to open this year on 14 August. The PM has given deadline to all relevant authorities to complete everything and gear up for opening. Today once again the directed that “no compromise should be made on the quality of work for the Airport facilities”.
